About this artwork
In this work, I wanted to capture the nocturnal atmosphere of a boat anchored in the Venetian lagoon. The turbulent sky contrasts with the calm of the sea, blending figurative and semi-abstract forms. The shades of blue and violet create an atmosphere that is both soothing and vibrant. This imaginary landscape originated from Robert Mallet's poem "Le premier quartier de lune" (The First Quarter of the Moon), which begins as follows:
"Near the shore,… roofs are notched,
Silent, an ivory boat,
Without any crew, it dropped anchor
In the dark waters of the bay
Or the pennants of the lost port still fly."
Christian Delavelle: Painter of the ephemeral and the imaginary. Through his canvases, Christian Delavelle captures the essence of transparency, light, and movement. His pictorial language, bordering on the figurative, invites the viewer on a journey where reality and dream intertwine. Each work is a window onto rare moments, silent encounters between living beings and the natural elements: a tree conversing with a comet in the night, a train emerging from the fog, a sailor defying a breaking wave, a galloping horse springing from the invisible, or the gaze of a bird contemplating the lagoon at dusk. His art, both poetic and powerful, celebrates lightness and pure emotion, transforming each canvas into a unique sensory experience. Cote Akoun 2025: €600 (standard format 65 x 50 cm)
"Beautiful painting, it looks perfect above the sofa. Many compliments to Christian."
