About this artwork
The starting point for this painting is a memory from a trip to Alexandria, a suburb of Washington, D.C. Late one morning, a saxophonist sits on his stool, playing a Miles Davis jazz piece. Passersby go about their business. To capture the vibrant, palpable atmosphere, I used a mixture of hide glue, pigments, and linseed oil, which creates this extremely diffused effect. The temperature of the mixture is adjusted to achieve the optimal consistency.…
