About this artwork
Torn posters on canvas. Part of the MPL series made from damaged posters recovered from wild poster locations in Montpellier. The posters are then re-torn by hand and the composition reconstructed to create a new rhythm. They are worked as a painter would do with his paint.
These are not ready-mades or anonymous lacerations. There… is reconstruction work. Here a chromatic work on the harmonies of blues and greens. Ready to hang on the wall (does not necessarily require a frame).

« I am a painter who draws his colors from worn and faded materials, for which brush strokes are falling from posters or magazines. »
The French artist Christian Gastaldi, born in Sète, France, in 1960, is a painter who substitutes oil and acrylic painting with sections of posters and magazines, replacing brushstrokes with hand-made tears. His paintings recompose lines and colours from these torn papers to produce new graphic and poetic compositions.
