Christiane Portmann's passion for art has been with her since childhood, when her first visits to exhibitions with her parents sparked her enthusiasm. Early on, she developed a desire for her own creative expression—an inner drive that continues to guide her today.
A painting residency on Sylt in 2019 marked a turning point: Since then, she has devoted herself intensively to painting. She works with acrylic, oil, and cold wax, continually developing her visual language.
In her studio, she sees the artistic process as a lively dialogue. In complex working phases, she creates works that oscillate between delicate gestures and powerful lines – sometimes inspired by landscapes, sometimes open to free association. Every trace is part of the visual biography: visible or hidden, yet always meaningful. The past is honored without being captured – layer by layer, a new whole emerges, just as life continually writes our story.
