About this artwork
This painting was inspired by a visit to Galway, Ireland. I found myself immersed in the beautiful costal sunsets I experienced during evening walks. In this painting I enjoyed capturing the wonderful vibrant colours in the sky, just before nightfall.
Through my painting, I share my experience of liberation through nature. I aim to reflect a narrative of the mental dialogue between human and nature, and the escapism, peace and solitude this relationship… can bring, in contrast to the chaos and complexities of modern life.
By incorporating silhouettes of anonymous and isolated figures facing away from the viewer, a sense of mystery and curiosity can be generated within my work. The figures are stripped of identity and personality to direct the viewer’s focus firmly on the figure’s relationship with its surroundings.
I hope for my work to enhance the importance of our natural environment, our personal engagement with it and the benefits it can bring to our wellbeing.
