The elder bush in the yard—I greeted it as I passed. Its delicate foliage envelops this listening darkness. A silent attentiveness touches me. Even the Germanic tribes revered the elder. All its parts are beneficial to us humans, from its fragrance to its root. It was and still is considered sacred. But the painter is moved by the darkness it conceals.
