About this artwork
Occasionally I can see the sea from the heights in the Upper Rhine Valley, the sea of fog. It is in no way inferior to the real sea in terms of beauty, vastness and color. The picture is a faint reflection of the unearthly luminosity and liveliness. That is why I was disappointed and left it behind the cupboard. When I took it out, it beamed at me. It may surprise you too.
Once again, the tried and tested technique of egg tempera painting manages… to conjure up this brilliance. The picture becomes more and more beautiful the longer it matures.
