About this artwork
Eye of the Tiger tells a story of encounter and desire in vibrant colors. The red-clad romantic figure, adorned with numerous hearts, suddenly finds itself in the eye of the tiger, the blue figure, who is captivated and intensely desired. Reason ceases to exist; the serpent of seduction is now in action. Simultaneously, a second figure emerges from the background of the glen check pattern and stalks the romantic figure. This time, the support is… not canvas, but the time-honored fabric of glen check.
Christoph Mandera, inspired by his Catholic childhood and the aesthetics of religious church windows, is a painter in the classical sense. His works feature pure, unmixed colors, expressively defined by black lines, and fill the picture surfaces and edges with diverse symbols, figures, and comic-like elements – a pop-like effect. He dynamically stages landscapes, symbols, and everyday heroes. His consistently optimistic art reflects the facets of life and touches the viewer with a blend of drama, comedy, longing, and hope.
