Crescendo is a 30 x 40 inches (approx 76 x 101cm) oil painting on canvas. A wave at its maximum intensity, the salt water tumbles and boils, amid a raging blizzard of small droplets lit by the sun.
“This subject was inspired by a walk along the beach at Southwold, on the Suffolk coast on a bright but freezing winter morning. I don't think the colours were quite that blue but I wanted to convey the coldness as well as the movement and light of the… wave”.
These wave seascapes are an ongoing preoccupation with Christopher Witchall, “Working on the larger scale means I can open up a bit with a looser style. The flow of liquid water interpreted through the flow of liquid paint”.
The painting is sold unframed but fitted and strung making it ready to hang without framing.
Crescendo is signed by the artist on the bottom right of the painting and is also supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity.
