About this artwork
The source of inspiration is the oriental and Chinese Shan Shui (mountain and water) landscape painting, characterised by light brushstrokes and shapes and where it is important to leave white voids, spaces for meditation and thought.
As in Taoist philosophy, the high peaks of mountains represent yang, while the waterways that flow through them represent ying. The balance between these two elements is considered by the Chinese to be essential in… the design of a landscape painting.
This painting was created with soft pieces of rice paper added to the initial paint, overlaid on the canvas, and then brushstrokes of ink, pastel, and acrylic on rice paper were added. The result is soft, luminous, and textured.
