Born in France, Claire Lassonnery lives and works between La Baule, France, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Holding a doctorate in pharmacy, she began her career in French pharma field before relocating to Asia. Over thirty years across nine countries in Europe and Asia, she first encountered lacquer in Japan in '08, a decisive encounter that led her to art. From '16 to '20, she studied lacquer with Master Bao, in Saigon, Vietnam. The allergy later forced her to abandon traditional lacquer; she drew on her scientific training to reformulate her materials into a pictorial language of her own.
Exhibited publicly since '24, her solo shows include Suspended Between Two Worlds at Alliance Française de Kuala Lumpur ('25–'26) and Mute at Alliance Française de Penang ('26), plus group shows in Singapore and Monaco and 1 Hall 1 Artiste on Île Feydeau, Nantes ('26). Her work has been discussed by critics Quentin Métayer and Nathalie Gallon (AICA), held in private collections across Asia and Europe.
