About this artwork
This watercolor is the result of a chance encounter in my backyard in February 2022. I found this poplar leaf and felt the need to preserve its fleeting beauty. It is a study of intimate observation where my main objective was to document the complex network of veins that support the form and the tonal variations that occur when nature retreats.
I worked with a limited palette of earth tones and ochres (burnt umbers), using very subtle and transparent… washes for the leaf body and controlled, fine brushstrokes for the vascular structure. It is a piece that seeks to celebrate the aesthetic of fragility and stillness hidden in everyday botanical elements.
