About this artwork
In her paintings, Clare Asch explores the interaction of chance and predetermined structures. Natural phenomena like gravity and its effect on the flow of water fascinate her. She also has a long-standing interest in mark making. This dialogue of chance, gesture and structure is the foundational basis of her art.
Though Clare’s artwork is abstract, it is influenced by landscape painting, and most particularly landscapes that depict water. Some of… her influences are the seascapes of J.M.W. Turner, the waterfalls of Pat Steir and Helen Frankenthaler’s color field paintings.

« I’m interested in exploring the interaction of chance and predetermined structures with my inspiration coming from nature. The dialogue of chance, gesture, and structure is the basis for my artwork. »
Clare Asch is a Hungarian artist based in the United States whose paintings have been featured in several solo exhibitions nationally. Her creative process combines an expressive approach with geometric structure. Influenced by abstract expressionism and color field painting, when Asch creates she does not think in terms of theories or messages, she simply paints what she feels.
