About this artwork
In her paintings, Clare Asch explores the interaction of spontaneous, gestural paint with geometry. She builds up layers of paint, playing with accidental occurrences set against consciously defined areas.
In the Geomorph Series, she starts each painting with one enclosed rectangular area which is altered during the painting process. In the finished stages of the work, she pours the paint in the center area of the canvas while it is in a horizontal… position. This process allows her to work with the likelihood that the poured paint will form into a circular shape and thus increase the dialogue between the organic and the geometric.

Clare Asch is a Hungarian artist based in the United States whose paintings have been featured in several solo exhibitions nationally. Her creative process combines an expressive approach with geometric structure. Influenced by abstract expressionism and color field painting, when Asch creates she does not think in terms of theories or messages, she simply paints what she feels.
