About this artwork
This is a mixed media painting on silk. This series of paintings deals with the fragility of existence. It was inspired after a trip to Vulcan Arenal in Costa Rica. Vulcan Arenal is a beautiful tourist site, but at its center is an active volcano. The volcano is closely monitored and is not likely to erupt but there are nightly lava flows and minor eruptions. destructive left a strong impression on me.
My paintings are not realistic renderings and in each of my paintings I doubled the volcano, creating two triangular shapes. Later I was told that my paintings looked very much like an area in Guatemala.
What impressed me about this experience was an awareness of the vulnerability of life and how precious it is.

Clare Asch is a Hungarian artist based in the United States whose paintings have been featured in several solo exhibitions nationally. Her creative process combines an expressive approach with geometric structure. Influenced by abstract expressionism and color field painting, when Asch creates she does not think in terms of theories or messages, she simply paints what she feels.
