Each part of this work is a microcosm. I draw inspiration from the mysterious atmosphere of the undergrowth, where mosses, vines, and roots mingle in a profusion of life.
I used a palette of colors that are both earthy and psychedelic to illustrate this duality: deep greens and ochres sit alongside touches of fluorescent pink and sunny yellow, like rare flowers or mushrooms in unexpected hues.
The varied textures (tight loops, loose threads, inlaid… beads) create a landscape towards which one is compelled to reach out.
If you look more closely, you will even see some luminous beings roaming the work...
"Enchanted Undergrowth" is an invitation to dream, a sensory exploration of the depths of the forest. This wall tapestry is a true textile sculpture where material and color meet to evoke the richness and complexity of natural ecosystems.
After 17 years cultivating kindness and innovation within the French national education system, Clarissa Vasté chose to leave a system that no longer resonated with her values to embrace her true nature. Her quest for meaning initially led her to interior design, before a personal upheaval in 2022 prompted her to express her emotions through textiles. A passionate self-taught artist, she explored weaving and embroidery before tufting emerged as a revelation: “I found in it the volume and freedom of expression I so desperately needed.” Today, the artist sculpts wool to make the intangible tangible. Fascinated by the vibrancy of colors and the sensuality of materials, she plays with contrasts and textures to create dreamlike and organic landscapes. Her works are invitations to escape, where the viewer is invited to inhabit the material. Through this work with fiber, the artist asserts an absolute freedom: To Be!
