The Spanish Riding School in Vienna is a cultural jewel where history, equestrian art and passion
for horses live together. An institution of international prestige, attracting visitors from all over the world.
“Pas de Deux” depicts horse and rider intent on creating a dance duet, demonstrating the
harmony established between them. During the execution of these equestrian performances, around 600
kilos of overall weight and over two cubic meters… of volume of a ridden Lipizzaner horse
remain in graceful dynamic suspension, sustained by only a few bones with a diameter of a
few centimeters each and distributed in just two support points. A true challenge to gravity is hidden behind the static realization of a dynamic scene such as Pas De
Deux. The art pieces belonging to this series do requested quite a tough work of dosing weight and measures.
CLAU RIILIEVO began as a sculptor in the United States, creating commissioned works suspended between heaven and earth, and specializing in the use of emptiness as an element of characterization of the work. CLAU creates sculptures that represent figures of audacity and determination, or abstractions left "suspended" in the void. He treats wood by hardening it through the use of a particular and personal technique, created and perfected over time. Almost always equipped with ropes, his works appear suspended in the void, emanate courage and arouse curiosity; they tell silent stories of ambitions and hidden fears. CLAU's works, of immediate impact, challenge the void, becoming bearers of vibrant emotions through a journey into introspection. After decades of commissioned work, since 2024 CLAU has opened his business to the general public, with works of his own free conception.
