About this artwork
The image depicts a large, stylized lighter Numeral "3" within a darker marbled effect in negative areas. The marbling features shades of purple, blue, and pink, creating a visually striking contrast against the lighter Number three.
This Contemporary SERIES of Numbers (Zero - Nine) are large 72" x 36" and painted in Acrylic on Canvas. The positive Numeral in each is in soft marble textured tones. These are contrasted by bolder, deep, rich crystallized… colours in the negative areas of the Numeral. By pushing the Numeral out to the edges of the canvas, the effect becomes an Abstract Minimalist Painting in which the Number shape becomes less obvious on first look.
The image presents a unique blend of typography and artistry through its use of contrasting techniques.

« I paint numbers! Painting and numbers can define us in significant ways. Paintings evoke emotion, but as in life, one can feel like just a number. »
Cliff Kearns is an experienced artist from Canada whose paintings have been featured in solo exhibitions internationally. With an early background in design and illustration, Kearns began to focus on more personal self expression since 2000. These fine art paintings have evolved from daily reflections and meditations on Life, and our place in it. In the quest to reveal a true self, every series also incorporates numbers. More and less obvious in each series of artworks, this sequential numbering becomes the common denominator which holds the body of works together. The numbers act as a background counting mechanism as Cliff attempts to get closer to his truth.
