Number Three's are achievers and need to succeed. They are natural leaders and want to make things happen. They are show people, achievers, status seekers, and handle each of their roles better than their true self. Ronald Reagan was a three. As was Dorothy Day. Major League Baseball player Babe Ruth wore No 3 on his jersey as did Dale Earnhardt on his race car.
Kearns comes to this Number imagery after many years of creating Art and intends the… viewer to think and wonder. This recent series incorporates the individual numeral from zero to nine as the basis of the entire artwork. Positive and negative space is defined to create a contemporary, expressive color field painting. He plays with the paint and painting process in these defined spaces to create subtle but intriguing surfaces of color and texture that reveal more and more on each viewing. Life can become a Numbers Game.

« I paint numbers! Painting and numbers can define us in significant ways. Paintings evoke emotion, but as in life, one can feel like just a number. »
Cliff Kearns is an experienced artist from Canada whose paintings have been featured in solo exhibitions internationally. With an early background in design and illustration, Kearns began to focus on more personal self expression since 2000. These fine art paintings have evolved from daily reflections and meditations on Life, and our place in it. In the quest to reveal a true self, every series also incorporates numbers. More and less obvious in each series of artworks, this sequential numbering becomes the common denominator which holds the body of works together. The numbers act as a background counting mechanism as Cliff attempts to get closer to his truth. His most recent 'i' Personhood Series is coming closer to that personal statement of honesty. 'i' is the shortest word in the English language and yet can mean so much. Especially when it begins to represent 'I' and You pictorially. Our identity, individuality, importance and actuality.
