This painting pays homage to Nu Shu, a secret, ancient language created by women from a region of China to communicate and support each other in a world that silenced them. Passed down only among women, from generation to generation, Nu Shu is a symbol of resilience and sisterhood. Used to express emotions, hopes, and intimate suffering, this language was woven into songs, embroidery, and secretly written words, preserving the female voice amidst…
oppression. The work seeks to honor the strong women who, throughout history, have come together to transform the world and move forward, regardless of the difficulties. Through this painting, I celebrate these powerful women who managed to create a unique form of communication, unity, and empowerment.
