About this artwork
"Duo in colours" is a painting by the artist Corinne Malfreyt.
Movement interests me as a symbol of the life energy that flows through us. I draw particular inspiration from the work of Eadweard Muybridge, a photographer who, at the end of the 19th century, was the first to study the breakdown of everyday movements. For this painting, I also incorporated my admiration for the painter Nicolas de Staël. His subjects were landscapes or still lifes;… my subject is bodies in motion. Like him, I painted with a palette knife for a textured effect. Like him, I layered areas of color, flirting with abstraction. Drawing on these influences, "Duo in Colors" explores color at the limits of abstraction, serving to convey dynamism.

Corinne Malfreyt is an award-winning French artist who has exhibited her works nationally, as well as in China, Kuwait, Belgium, and the Netherlands. The major theme in her paintings is dance, as a symbol of movement. Another phase of Malfreyt's compositions relates to movement that is frozen in memories, reminiscences, and retinal persistence. In her creative process, she allows herself to be guided by varying thicknesses of sand, finishing with oils and emphasizing the rhythms of intervals between characters.
