About this artwork
This work is part of my series 'Homo Sapiens,' in which I explore our common origins. The title is a deliberate reference to the scientific fact that connects all human beings and fundamentally questions concepts we have created, such as racism. Each portrait in this series is a homage to our deepest, universal roots.
With a raw energy reminiscent of Art Brut, I capture a moment of alert curiosity. The chimpanzee's direct, almost hopeful gaze seems… to build a bridge to the viewer. Dominated by earthy gray and beige tones, the painting draws the focus to the lively eyes and subtle facial expressions that make us reflect on our responsibility towards nature and its creatures.
