“Democracy”, 150 x 120 cm, acrylic on canvas, 2024
Peace is currently a central theme everywhere. For me, it's symbolized by a woman. A woman gives life, a woman raises life, a woman gives love and fulfillment—why should she be in favor of war and injustice? All democratic states have lived in peace for a long time, and if democracy works properly, if all intelligent minds have a voice and not just the loudmouths, then I see it as a meaningful way… to preserve or restore peace and to overcome the problems of our time together. The constant rotation and movement is created by the motion of the tile cleaner; the peace dove also originated this way. I was the first to use this technique in painting, applying the paint with a dynamic, rotating motion. Blue—as the color of hope—and orange—as its complement—dominate.
