About this artwork
"Washti" is part of a cycle in which I have dealt with themes from the Bible. Washti is a figure from the Tanakh, a very self-confident woman who contradicts her husband, the Persian king Ahasuerus, when she feels that he is not treating her appropriately. Ahasuerus then banishes her. With a gesture of her hand, Washti shows the limit in my picture - up to that point and no further. Symbolically, she stands for self-confidence and strength.
