About this artwork
As Cornelia painted the "Return Journey," she was reminded of a time of reflection, of the successes and failures of her journey. It's a study of blues and pink painted with soft brushstrokes, knifes beneath an atmospheric surface.
Cornelia's method emphasizes gesture, line, color, and space. Physicality and action are key to her technique. To create her painting she expands on the methods of theAbstract Expressionists, blending automatic drawing,… performative gestures, and intuitive color choices to express the dephts of her unconcious.
She works with multiple layers and colors, creating works that are defined by their complexity and depht.
Her textured and painterly surfaces blend areas of apparent randomness where paint has been splashed or dripped with areas of precision, where paint has been applied with a deliberate, trained hand.
Sides are continuously painted, so there is no need to frame.

Cornelia Petrea is an experienced Romanian painter who has exhibited her work in France, Monaco, Romania and the United States. She obtained a mechanical engineering degree before turning to a future in art, but now fully focuses on her true passion for painting. Portraying the beauty of nature as well as her own life story, she constructs acrylic on canvas works full of hope, energy and harmony.
