About this artwork
In this piece, I merged flowing watercolor with stark ink lines to evoke intense emotions and inner conflict. The semi-abstract and surreal forms represent the fluidity of identity and thought, capturing a moment of self-reflection and tension. It will bring a vibrant, contemplative energy to your space, inviting viewers to explore the complexity beneath surface appearances.

Cynthia Ruffin Simon, a painter and sculptor born in New York, draws from a lifelong engagement with creative expression, from performance to athletics. She employs impressionistic techniques with both landscapes and large-scale abstracts, relishing the physicality of color and gesture, while also capturing the essence of people beyond mere likeness. Her art radiates with raw, authentic emotion—love, joy, pleasure, but also the shadows of hate, sadness, and misery—inviting viewers to experience the full, vibrant spectrum of human feeling.
