About this artwork
Flying Brushes combines floral forms with a free, gestural visual language. Bright blossoms in white, pink, and delicate violet tones emerge from a dynamic background, while broad brushstrokes, transparent fields of color, and dynamic lines open up the composition.
The work thrives on the contrast between the soft presence of the blossoms and the energy of the painterly movement. Shades of green, yellow, ochre, and magenta overlap in layers, creating… a vibrant space that hovers between natural motif and abstraction.
Oil on acrylic enhances the depth of the surface and allows different painterly gestures to remain visible: opaque areas, glazes, quick strokes, and open marks. The painting appears light, vibrant, and intuitive – as if the color, blossoms, and brushstrokes were created in the same instant.
Cynthia Stämpfli is a Swiss painter with a diverse background, mastering classical painting techniques such as egg tempera, cire saponifiée, and Van Eyck's oil technique, as well as mixed media. She combines meticulous craftsmanship with an Impressionist language of light and color, inspired by Cézanne and Italian masters, creating atmospheric depth through multi-layered application of paint. Her poetic portraits and nature scenes invite contemplation and touch the viewer with the emotional presence of a fleeting moment.
