Rain Tree: In this diptych, we see a slightly windswept tree and an abstraction of what could be an umbrella. Playful elements are woven together to form a new work, Rain Tree. The image is again applied in a very sketch-like manner, characteristic of Daan’s collection. The work originates from a sketch in one of his notebooks, where Daan incorporated the pre-printed lines from the notebook into this composition, blending the organic with the conceptual.…

Daan fuses multiple layers of glass together in combination with iron oxides to achieve the desired result. Some parts are applied as powder, which is best compared to sand or finely ground glass, while other parts are applied with a brush and Arabic gum. Afterward, all the layers are fused together at around 800°C.
