About this artwork
I wanted to compose a repetitive shape with a muted palette, basically two-color with variations. Once finished I find the shapes are — although definitely abstract and free — evocative of a group of people. Despite mainly aiming at pure expressionist abstraction, I do also love pieces which are ambigous, where meaning can be imagined while nothing is directly showing any clear meaning. They can stimulate the viewer’s imagination.
Daniel Bondard, a native of Romania, emigrated to France as a child, became M.D. and then a software developer. Always willing to cultivate his creative side along with his scientific career, he began painting fifteen years ago, becoming a full time fine arts painter. His work probes the unique characteristics of diverse materials like acrylics enhanced by marble powders and tools constructed by the artist himself. In his abstract works, Daniel builds an emotional connection with the viewer through bold brushwork and perceptive employment of color and movement.
Movement, in fact, is key to Daniel’s work. In his acrylics, the use of confident, sweeping brush strokes, grainy surfaces, and raised paint textures alter the play of light and shadow on the surface of the canvas, disclosing a velvety aura that breathes life into the piece. Daniel’s paintings and inks sing with feeling, setting his work apart from that of other artists in the genre.
