About this artwork
Nelson Mandela Short Biography- Nelson Mandela was born on July 18, 1918 in the Union of South Africa. He is known to be a politician at the helm of the struggle against apartheid, which led him first to the peaceful struggle against oppression. Then following the massacre of demonstrators for the rights of blacks in Sharpeville in 1960, when the ANC or African National Congress to which Nelson Mandela belongs was banned, the clandestine struggle… and the taking up of arms. Sentenced to life imprisonment in 1964, he remained imprisoned for 27 years… but still just as popular, was elected on April 27, 1994 to the presidency of his country only a few years after his release from prison. He then became the first black president of South Africa, for a single presidential term, until 1999. His entire existence revolved around the fight against racial segregation. For this, he will obtain the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. Towards the end of his life, he no longer participates in political life.
. I believe the strength of the portfolio of artworks presented by Daniel Burgraeve lies in a coherent group of artworks, even if they differ from each other in terms of composition and other aspects. They were all created from a similar visual concept.
Daniel Burgraeve defines these abstract expressionist works as lyrical abstractions. They are all action paintings, created spontaneously, non-figurative, or identifiable by rapid brushstrokes.
If I had to choose a favorite work, I would choose "lyrical abstraction 2": "LYRICAL ABSTRACTION 2".
