About this artwork
1965 - 1969 BYRDCLIFFE, NY — Even before the Woodstock Festival, people would come through the woods at all hours of the day and night, knockin' on his door. "These people can't be my fans ...And they just kept comin' ...We had to get out of there." So, it was back to NYC before moving to Malibu — under a big brass dome.
1967 THE BASEMENT TAPES — "We were all up there sorta drying out ...making music and watching time go by. ...That’s really the… way to do a recording. In a peaceful, relaxed setting ...in a basement studio ("Big Pink"), with the windows open and a dog on the floor."
1967 SO LONG, NEW YORK, HOWDY NASHVILLE! — Maybe he was fed up with the "Voice of a Generation" label and just wanted out. Most of 1967 was spent at "Big Pink" with The Hawks. At the same time, he was writing songs that he didn't expose to them until October, when he changed his boots and headed for Nashville. And everyone else followed. So began, Country-Rock.

About the series:
WHAT WAS HE (Bob Dylan) THINKING?
In 1964, when Bob Dylan sang these first two lines of
I SHALL BE FREE No.10
"I’m just average, common too,
I’m just like him, the same as you"
I wanted to believe him. But I was not just like him. Besides, I couldn’t sing, let alone play guitar. Sixty-five years later, I’m still listening and often still wonder — What Was HE Thinking?
The SQUARE IMAGE TRIPTYCHS highlight moments within Bob Dylan’s career while simply questioning what he was thinking during those situations. (Special configurations (Your choice of any 3) requests accepted).
The RECTANGULAR IMAGES illustrate a song’s lyrics, literally, the way I heard them the first time, straightforward without concern as to what Bob might have meant. It’s all about the visuals. Some reflect a single line or a single verse, while others include imagery for every verse of a song.
