About this artwork
1970 COLUMBIA RECORDS STUDIO A — Dylan, "...I woke up and caught my senses. I wish these people would just forget about me. I wanna do something they can't possibly like ...They'll go on to somebody else." So, he released SELF PORTRAIT in 1970. His idea backfired. It went directly to #4 in the US and #1 in the UK.
TOUR '74 - DYLAN & THE BAND — Dylan, "The Band and I hadn't played publicly together since 1966." This was perceived as a high-risk comeback… for both. The 40-concert, 21-city tour was one of the largest such undertakings of its era. By one account, Dylan liked the money but not the experience.
1975 BLOOD ON THE TRACKS — Bob and Sara's breakup record? Bob, "A lot of people tell me they enjoyed that album. It's hard for me to relate to that. I mean ...people enjoying that type of pain, you know? I might have gone a little bit too far with 'Idiot Wind'." Jakob Dylan described the songs as: "my parents talking."

About the series:
WHAT WAS HE (Bob Dylan) THINKING?
In 1964, when Bob Dylan sang these first two lines of
I SHALL BE FREE No.10
"I’m just average, common too,
I’m just like him, the same as you"
I wanted to believe him. But I was not just like him. Besides, I couldn’t sing, let alone play guitar. Sixty-five years later, I’m still listening and often still wonder — What Was HE Thinking?
The SQUARE IMAGE TRIPTYCHS highlight moments within Bob Dylan’s career while simply questioning what he was thinking during those situations. (Special configurations (Your choice of any 3) requests accepted).
The RECTANGULAR IMAGES illustrate a song’s lyrics, literally, the way I heard them the first time, straightforward without concern as to what Bob might have meant. It’s all about the visuals. Some reflect a single line or a single verse, while others include imagery for every verse of a song.
