About this artwork
When I painted this picture, I was less concerned with the bears themselves than with this one brief moment. The mother pauses, observes her surroundings, and at the same time seems to perceive the viewer. Her cubs are already occupied with other things – curious, carefree, and each going about their own business.
Such moments in nature fascinate me. They seem peaceful, yet you sense that something could happen at any moment. That's precisely the… feeling I wanted to capture. The dense greenery, the reflections in the water, and the changing light were not meant to push the animals into the foreground, but rather to show them as part of their environment.
For me, the picture tells of attention, closeness, and the silent trust between a mother and her young.

I'm Daniel, a painter from Leipzig. I've been painting under the name danh1z since 2019 – first as an apprentice glass and porcelain painter in Kaufbeuren, then on my own.
What interests me is the tension between control and letting go. I work in layers – building up, reworking, revealing. Sometimes a painting is finished in hours, sometimes I work on it for weeks. Palette knives, brushes, flowing paint – whatever the painting needs.
The subjects change. Animals, cars, people. I paint what moves me, what challenges me, what I don't yet understand.
My works are held in private and institutional collections in Europe, the USA, and South Korea. In 2026, I was a jury member at the Geoje International Art Festival in South Korea—an experience that profoundly influenced me.
