About this artwork
A close up of a tiger grouper face inspired by many dives in the crystal clear sea in St. Lucia.
This painting is part of a multi-original series. I will be creating more than one version of this motif, each individually hand-drawn using water-based resist and hand-painted using Sumi pony hair brushes to apply a water-based liquid pigment silk paint onto 10mm 100% Habotai silk. No two pieces are alike, making each painting an original which is lightfast… and water-resistant. All paintings come with a hand-signed and dated certificate of authenticity.

« I use nature as my inspiration and silk as my canvas. »
Daniel Jean-Baptiste creates vibrant and expressive art that depicts how he sees the world with this heart. The painter, who resides in Canada, wants his pieces to awaken a love of nature within the viewer. Jean-Baptiste works with pigments on silk, painted with Sumi sheep hair brushes in a batik style, using a technique that he accidentally invented in his St. Lucia studio in the 1990s.
