Crystal clear air of the Tyrolean Alps.
The few days spent in the Alps were unbelievably vivid to me. The first thing that struck the mountains was the incredible clean air. Having done the underdeath for this work in earth tones, I stopped. I really wanted to leave the picture monochrome. But after a while I added color. The color in the mountains is incredible. Air and distance change it, light and reflexes transform it. From that day I’m in love… with the mountains.

Through his landscapes and cityscapes, Daniel Mikhailov wants to translate what he ‘saw, noticed, and saved’. The Russian painter is inspired by reflections and shades as well as highlights and shadows that he comes across in his daily life. While Mikhailov mainly paints using oils, he always begins a piece with a primary coat using watercolors. He then adds a thick layer using a palette knife. The combination of dense colors mixed with a transparent background creates an impressionistic and otherworldly atmosphere.
