The artist depicted a part of the botanical garden in St. Petersburg, called "Subtropical path".
The painting shows a section of an indoor garden overgrown with giant ferns. The space inside the painting is bounded by a glass wall that separates one section of the garden from another; in the middle of the wall there is a passage into which a path goes, capturing the viewer's eyes. To the left of the passage is a tree trunk, densely entwined with… a liana, to the right you can see a red staircase, creating a color accent that balances the green color of the picture.
