About this artwork
"Portrait" series is linked in an aspect to the "Selfie" series, here i focus on the absence of the face in the presence of the Other, while in the "Selfie" series i focused on the Face.
The idea of the completely covered head goes back to an older idea i worked on, which is the primitive "Doll" that I created. It consists of two wooden sticks are tied in the form of a cross, with a head that is a cloth stuffed with clothes or cotton and shaped as… a ball.
This doll represents a meeting point for many conceptions: It may represent the scarecrow, the cross, poverty, innovation, dead nature, childhood or childhood loss ...etc. It's an idea-knot as I like to call it.
