About this artwork
Oil commission piece created for collectors. The area in Alberta was very special to them and they both liked Darlene's style of abstract. Although she did mention to them that she had never created anything close to a mountain they trusted her enough to let her roll with it and to create it with her own style and imagination. This original piece 40"x 60" created with oil and to ensure the impasto textures, oil pieces were taken off the palette…
to build up areas of thicker oil on canvas . This was so she could give the illusion of the rockiness of the mountain and bring a slight 3D effect to the painting. She had never been to Alberta to see this mountain but the collectors showed her a photo of the place they got engaged (which was why this was so special to them) and Darlene went from that to get a feel for what this magnificent mountain might look like in an abstract expressionistic style.
