About this artwork
Here, Anna is in an assertive attitude to defend a singular identity caught between the boredom of the youth of Saint Petersburg and the richness of Russian culture. The face is only worked with charcoal while the rest of the body and the background are worked with acrylic paint textures.
I met Anna Kryaklina (Анна Кряклина), a young Russian from Saint Petersburg, on the internet. The work that I have done with her is the work of a look, mine,… on a look, hers. We are two beings in the world scattered at the two ends of Europe, far and near, on two ephemeral trajectories. We don't know anything more about each other. Yes maybe, I know she knits and she knows I paint. I see the images she makes of herself, self-portraits that are not selfies at all, portraits that talk about her; she sees my drawings and my paintings.

David Affagard, fascinated by Schiele and Freud, explores the human figure through live drawing, acrylic and charcoal on wood. Combining classical and modern techniques, he models perspective and composition to express total humanity. His striking work strips the body naked, depicting our last line of defense in an all-consuming world, a formidable ode to our unwavering integrity.
