About this artwork
We see them in the “real world.” And on TV, in film, and other media: couples, sharing the same space, yet not together. They may be angry, they might be disconnected or even distracted. But we can tell when a pair is apart. Our present day culture seems to be a breeding ground for detachment and even isolation. Most of us can even recall times when we ourselves can be with someone—yet not—at the same time. For those who witness, it matters when… we look—and for how long, and also what we expect to see or to feel. The truth is, mere moments may separate those divergent experiences of disconnection and connection. My intention here is to show—and celebrate—what love and true engagement can look and feel like when fully in the moment.
David Arsenault is an oil painter from coastal Massachusetts, trained at the University at Albany (New York) and deeply influenced by Edward Hopper. He employs techniques of American Realism and Hyper-realism, with a focus on large shapes, dramatic light, and subtle yet flat surfaces, favoring contemplative scenes over textural brushwork. His art radiates a profound sense of solitude, tranquility, and timelessness, inviting viewers to gently rediscover contentment and shared humanity within their own quiet reflections.
