About this artwork
This work is a woodcut printed on a Korean paper in mulberry fiber, it is enhanced with watercolor. The printing is done with a spoon, which allows a more sensitive rendering than a printing with the press. The motif of the engraving results from an observation of a fragment of an urban landscape. « What I try to convey in my paintings is a certain notion of silence. The repetition of a pattern brings me closer to this silent sensation. »
David Clerc is an artist based in France who has exhibited his paintings nationally, as well as in Germany, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. His minimalist and abstract expressionist works are deeply rooted in the landscape he lives in and is part of. Currently, Clerc paints as often as he can outdoors, allowing the landscape to become his studio, exposing paintings are to the rain, wind, and sun. His compositions are also influenced by the geometrical motifs of Cistercian stained glass.
