About this artwork
This work is about a magical, colorful kingdom, set over a dynamic landscape. The process for composing this work was extremely involved. First, the conceptual sketch was composed, detailing the overall structure and flow. Next, color codes were assigned to each and every shape, and a Color Construct was invented specific to this work. After this phase, certain shapes in the conceptual design were cut and painted, in addition to other shapes…
being designed graphically. The process for painting the work involved carefully arranging the various array of media with the painted portions of the canvas for surgical precision. This work is part of series involving figurative elements being mixed with abstraction. Numerous paints were used, including oil, acrylic and gouache, in addition to custom paints. The process for composing and painting this work required several months. This is an intricate tapestry fused with multi-dimensional polygons, dynamic shapes, and gradated hues.

David Gaither is an award-winning American artist whose paintings have been featured in solo exhibitions in the United States and in London, Paris, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Japan and Dubai. His works explore subjects relating to mythology, history, science-fiction, etc. Driven by the conceptual, Gaither begins each piece in an almost architectural blue-print format, drawing shapes and patterns in a grid-like system. His artistic process is both lengthy and meticulous, sometimes taking months or years to complete a composition, resulting in "controlled chaos".
