About this artwork
The eyes were my starting point — they hold everything. I wanted them to feel direct but also distant, as if the subject is looking both at you and past you, caught between vulnerability and strength. The cool blues around the eyes and lips felt natural to me — blue has always carried a sense of memory and quiet hope in my work.
