About this artwork
My paintings are entirely based on my feelings about my experiences from childhood to the present day. We all have strong feelings and emotions that often are in the background of life but in quiet moments or in dreams, those raw emotions can feel ever present. We can all relate to this. I think I am very fortunate to be able to convert these strong sensations and re-interpret them into unique abstract works. If an interested buyer did not know the… circumstance behind one of my works, this painting stands on its own based upon the colors, shapes, surface, paints, and in some cases physical objects that are integrated into the painting. So the work stands on its own without story details.
This painting represents my dramatic relationship with my father and his relationship with me and my sisters.
« I create what I am feeling, not what I am seeing. I capture my emotions via unique conceptual ideas. Colors, lines, marks, surface provide me a visual language for expression. »
Bio- David Levy is an American conceptual abstract artist whose work fuses intellectual inquiry with expressive form. After a successful career in advertising, he transitioned to self taught, full-time artmaking in 2017. Since then, his practice has grown rapidly, with a concentrated period of production between 2019 and 2023, shaped by lockdown and stay at home care for his wife over a 5-year period. Levy’s work spans geometric abstraction, illusionistic constructions, and concept-driven series that resist stylistic repetition. His paintings have been exhibited from New York to San Francisco and are held in private collections across the United States, Europe, and Japan.
