About this artwork
This is McEwen's favourite painting of all the Equestrian pieces. It shows the horse Hickstead leaving the ring with its Olympic Rider, Eric Lamaze. This combination won Showjumping Gold at the Beijing Games.
The piece is almost a ghost painting as Hickstead suffered a fatal heart attack leaving another competition.
He was a brave and truly gifted athlete.
