About this artwork
"Resurrection" seeks to fill the gap between the resurrection of Jesus Christ and his appearance to Mary Magdalene outside the tomb. Gospel of John 20: 1-18. There is not actual physical presence of Christ either to Peter, John or Magdalene inside the tomb. Rembrandt shows Jesus waking from his sleep as the Angel of the Lord appears with lightning making the Roman guards of the tomb as dead men. William Blake Shows Jesus with Angels, one at the…
head and the other at the foot. This image is a depiction of the "Arc of the Covenant" with the angel's wings touching. In my interpretation Jesus if standing in the preparation area looking back at the grave where bandages are strewn with the cloth which was wrapped around Jesus head. The angels which Mary Magdalene saw are on either side of Jesus. The view outside the tomb is of Golgotha with the three crosses.
