About this artwork
Black and white painting of Joyce after one of his many different eye surgeries textured by thick paint a large brush strokes. Joyce's eyes began to give him more and more problems and he often wore an eyepatch. He was treated by Louis Borsch in Paris. Throughout the 1930s he travelled frequently to Switzerland for more eye surgeries.

The Irish painter endeavors to paint the beauty and creativity of the world, either in homage to great thinkers and artists, or to capture the uniqueness of a face. Many of Nowlan's works are an exploration of colors and shades in order to capture a particular mood or moment. He creates using oils on canvas and wood.
