About this artwork
This is a 20"w x 16"h limited edition giclée print (1/200) of "Dusk Over the Chesapeake" that makes a vibrant, colorful addition to any home decor. I painted this in 2014. As dusk descends on the Chesapeake Bay, a sailboat drops anchor at a secluded dock on Kent Island, Maryland. Overhead, a sweeping, vivid sky glows with the last fiery-orange rays of the setting sun. Wispy clouds drift northward, while others advance from the south like an encroaching… army. This abstract geometric watercolor captures the Chesapeake’s essence — the dance of weather, wind, and water — and the mesmerizing interplay of color and light across this tranquil waterscape.
David Ralph's artwork is about vision, beauty, expression, and multi-culturalism. This watercolor landscape reveals the geometric abstraction approach that characterizes David's "Geoformist" style.
David Ralph is a contemporary artist who lives in Greenbelt, Maryland, USA. About twenty-five years ago, David had a vision to create a series of abstract watercolor paintings that explored the female figure through curve, line, and a composition of varying shapes of color, value, and pattern. This exploration led to a distinctive style that has shaped David’s unique brand of painting ever since. In trying to describe and categorize his style of art, David Ralph has coined the term “Geoformism”. According to David, Geoformism is defined as a style of contemporary abstract art that focuses on the form of a subject (or object) and its underlying geometric essence. It contains elements of both geometric abstraction and figurative realism. Today, David continues to create abstract compositions of the female figure as well as other themes of interest such as nature, music, landscape, sports, politics/people, and cityscapes.
