About this artwork
This piece, like the others in this series, is not a 'study' for another painting but rather a study in colour, tone and surface relationships as a thing in its right. Hence, many in the series explore chromaticism in relation to extreme tonal variation, here, a mid range palette creating a tension between overlapping colours.
