About this artwork
Gémeaux refers to twins. These are non-identical of course, but explore the relationship of two separate canvases; the title is also a homage to the brilliant Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu, whose own 'Gémeaux' was written for large orchestra featuring the 'twins', trombone and oboe. I wanted something of this contrast in colour and timbre with the loose geometry against a dark grey ground and the more lyrical figure appearing almost as an apparition…
